At a closed-door meeting for Jewish Republicans, US Deputy National Security Adviser Elliott Abrams assured the group that current efforts to further the Israeli-Palestinian peace process were being done simply for show. Abrams described the diplomatic activity as "process for the sake of process," done to "assuage the Arabs and the Europeans, who haven't been happy with the United States [and are] happy to see that there's at least an attempt or energy being put into the peace process."
One might be surprised to find that the Bush administration doesn't actually care about establishing peace in a region of the world our military is currently fighting in. Then again, one might be a complete moron for assuming that peace has ever been a primary goal of the administration. Controlled by AIPAC and Christian Fundamentalists, the administration has publicly and shamelessly assisted the Israeli government in their effort to imprison and eradicate the Palestinians from their own land. Ever since Hamas was democratically elected, US and Israeli policy towards Palestine has succeeded in further dividing the Palestinians into warring factions.
