Google Bungles its own name, Val Day Logo reads "Googe".

I did a Google Search and what do we see? The giant can't spell its name!

But the giant still has defenders of its cause.

When something so well-loved like Google farts even a few molecules of putrid man-air, the world sniffs it hungrily. So when it somehow "botched" its Valentines logo, almost everybody quickly grabbed their urine-filled water pistols and began sniping at it. No, we're not joining those bunch of shallow fools. No matter how extremists would insist that this is "Googe" and not at all "Google," we're standing by our guns to "protect" a beleaguered company in need of sympathy and insist, like a love-crazed teen heady with his first crush, that Google is Google is Google, and that puny phallic strawberry stem is all that matters. Although they should have made those two o's to resemble the mammary glands of any of our favorite Hollywood @!$%#es. Scarlett Johannson's "puppies" might not hurt.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

It's pretty significant. How many times have you ever misspelled your name?

How many of those times have been on a document for public release ?

How many of those times resulted in hundreds of millions of people seeing your error ?

I think this incident says a few things, some of which are :

1. This was done on purpose either by google on the whole or a few people inside the company. You'll notice the custom logo it only on the main page - not on the search result pages as it usually is.

2. This was a mistake and the review process for giving the artsy logos the go ahead includes only one person. How could more than one person miss this mistake ? Much time is spent making a logo - how could you possible not notice a missing letter from a word comprised of only six letters?

    Let's say it was intentional.

That would be very strange to mess with their own brand symbol, their logo.

If one single person was responsible for it, that wouldn't indicate a very capable company would it?

I think its amusing; but I don't think its the big deal that several bloggers and sites are making it out to be. They screwed up; Google isn't perfect; Hoorah!

I assumed the long stem to be the L. Maybe even the whole strawberry, as the chocolate drizzle makes an easy G.
